Making A Difference In Our Community

Supporting the Drama Students at Robert Morgan Senior High School

Our Club has donated $5900 to the Robert Morgan Senior High Drama Club to help fund their upcoming production of Hadestown, scheduled for April 23 and 24. The funds from our club will help cover costumes and stage-building expenses, musicians, and bookkeeping costs.

Our Beautification and Edible Garden Initiatives

Arthur & Polly Mays Garden Project

Frank C. Martin K-8 Center Garden Project

Our Club recently spent a day at Frank C. Martin K-8 Center in Perrine, transforming a tired and neglected space into a place of beauty and remembrance. This marked the first phase of a four-part project aimed at enhancing the school's outdoor environment.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was restoring the memorial fountain dedicated to Melissa Woodson, a student who tragically passed away in 2001. The original fountain had fallen into disrepair, but thanks to our club’s efforts, a new fountain was placed on the original base to preserve its significance. The school’s Art Club will soon add a memorial stone, further honoring Melissa’s memory.

This event was just the beginning. Our next phases will include planting a butterfly and edible garden, as well as designing and constructing an outdoor classroom.

On November 9, 2024, the Rotary Club of Perrine-Cutler Ridge/Palmetto Bay embarked on an inspiring initiative to establish edible gardens in underserved areas of south Miami-Dade County. We commenced this initiative at Arthur & Polly Mays 6-12 Conservatory of the Arts, a nationally recognized public school of excellence in an under-resourced area. Each stage of the garden's creation—planning and planting—was a community effort. Our “Garden Day” brought together our Club, Barbara McAdam, a horticulturist from the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Miami-Dade Extension Center, consultants from the Little River Cooperative, our two Interact clubs, and several students, parents, and teachers from AP Mays. Our goal is to create a sustainable food source, promote hands-on learning, and enhance nutritional awareness among students.

Supporting the Teachers and Students at

Arthur & Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts

One of our latest projects includes supporting the 6-12 grade magnet students at Arthur & Polly Mays 6-12 Conservatory of the Arts in Goulds, FL. Our Club has been able to provide over $27,000 of in-kind donations that have helped the students succeed in both their art magnet programs and academic subjects.

Local High School Project Up-Start

Project Up-Start is one of our signature projects. The local high school we support has over 100 students, at any given time, designated as Project UP-Start – which is a government program for students with unstable housing.

Homelessness can range from living in a shelter to living on a friend’s couch to living in a car. The volume of students

in this position at this one high school is overwhelming. Our club supports this cause in various ways throughout the year.

Our club delivers pantry food every two weeks throughout the school year and provides clothing items, school uniforms, and toiletries as needed.
